Optical Storage
As part of an Enterprise Content Management system, organizations need a secure location to store their images and data. Imaging Solutions, Inc. can help you select the storage option and storage management software that is right for your organization.
An electronic archival storage solution can be categorized as optical storage or magnetic storage. Read about our magnetic storage options.
Imaging Solutions sells optical storage systems from Plasmon.
There are two types of optical storage disks and both are available in 5.25 and 12 formats:
- WORM (Write Once, Read Many) is a permanent storage media. The data is unalterable making it the right solution for companies that need to meet data security and data compliance issues.
- M/O (Magneto Optical) is similar to a hard drive in that it is reusable; data can be written and erased multiple times.
A jukebox or optical library is a device that stores the optical disks and uses a robotic arm to select the correct disk and put it in the optical drive. Optical drives are also made for DVDs and CDs.
The Ultra Density Optical (UDO) drive is a type of WORM technology from Plasmon that provides up to 30 gigabytes of storage. Plasmon, recently announced the launch of the new UDO Compliant Write Once media. Designed for archive applications subject to regulatory compliance and for ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) environments that have very specific data retention and disposition requirements, Compliant Write Once media contains a new feature that combines Write Once authenticity with the ability to physically destroy records, thereby enabling organizations to be in compliance with data retention and disposition regulations.
In selecting the right electronic archival storage solution, Imaging Solutions will consider how much data your business needs to store, the short versus long-term retrieval needs, WORM vs. M/O and the storage media. Contact us for a quote on an optical storage device.
