Imaging Solutions, Inc. Honored by AIIM
Receives "Best Practices" Award at AIIM's Annual Award Presentation
WALLINGFORD, CT, May 19, 2005 • Imaging Solutions was honored by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) with a “Best Practices” Industry Award for the document imaging and workflow solution that they implemented at The H.W. Wilson Company. A Best Practices award was also given to H.W. Wilson.
AIIM announced the winners of the “AIIM Best Practices Award” at a dinner celebration at the annual AIIM On Demand Conference & Exposition. The AIIM Best Practices Awards recognize an outstanding application of document and/or process management technology to solve a critical business requirement. The winning solution includes innovative use of this technology with a significant return on investment. Imaging Solutions’ application for H.W. Wilson won in the “Other” industry category. Award recipients are selected by AIIM’s Emerging Technology Advisory Group, which chooses companies they believe demonstrate the vision, leadership, creative use of technology, business value, and return on investment that are the hallmarks of Best Practices award winners.
“It is extremely gratifying to receive an AIIM Award like this one,” said Roger Tausig, Imaging Solutions’ President and CEO. “Recognition by the pre-eminent trade organization in one’s own field is very special.”
Prior to the implementation of this solution, H.W. Wilson used a paper based editorial system to review new periodicals and produce an abstract and a subjective ‘index’ of data for each article contained in the issue. Articles were shipped worldwide to editorial staff that has expertise in the subject matter. The challenge was to distribute them quickly and accurately, monitor and control the process and then to collect all of the work from multiple parties in order to create the final product.
Imaging Solutions’ answer was to design and build a Work Flow and Document Management solution to automate the abstraction process. A web based publishing workflow system called WorkCenter was created and is used by hundreds of editors worldwide. H.W. Wilson derived several benefits from implementing this system including a dramatic decrease in the time required to complete the abstracting and indexing process, a reduction in transportation, photocopying and magazine subscription costs and the ability to track critical metrics and adjust the workflow as needed.
“This particular project highlights several of the hallmarks of our company.” added Tausig. “Our Professional Services staff excels at designing and delivering complex, elegant solutions, but they are also especially strong at working cooperatively with customers and consultants as a team. In this case, the workflow process was extraordinarily complicated and there were many people involved, but working as a team, we delivered on time and on budget and the customer’s expectations were met or exceeded. We are very proud of this accomplishment.”
Business Solutions Magazine is featuring this award winning implementation in their June 2005 issue in an article titled Test Your Workflow Limits to Close The Deal which can be viewed at http://www.businesssolutionsmag.com/Articles/2005_06/050605.htm.
